Program Description

The mission of the School of Public Policy and Administration is to provide “Education for Good Governance.” The school’s programs are characterized by a strong emphasis on social justice, public ethics and commitment to democratic values. Students in the Public Administration program take courses from a mix of disciplines that provide a breadth of knowledge and opportunities to develop critical thinking, analytical capabilities and management skills. Students can choose to pursue an Honours degree (which can be combined with a minor in another discipline), or a Specialized Honours degree in one of three different streams:
  • Law, Justice and Public Policy
  • Management
  • Policy Analysis
We also offer a 36-credit Minor in Public Administration which can be taken by students studying towards an Honours degree in other disciplines. Students interested in taking a certificate program rather than a degree should consider the two 24 credit professional certificates offered:
  • Professional Certificate in Public Administration and Law
  • Professional Certificate in Public Policy Analysis
Staffed by an interdisciplinary faculty with strong research records and experience in active public service, the school provides a sense of community for students who share a fascination with questions of governance, administration, public ethics and the law. The school prepares graduates for careers ranging from the public to the not-for-profit and private sectors as well as for post-graduate studies in the social sciences and professional programs.
For specific program requirements, please consult the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies Programs of Study section.
